CBHS Newsletter 6 - May '13

Dear Parents,

There is a sense of excitement in the school as we count down to the first performance of the school play this evening. The play is the popular musical ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, and it will be performed on the 16, 17 and 18 May at 19h30. (Tickets cost R50-00 and can be bought at the door). The school was treated to a sneak preview earlier in the week and we were ‘wowed’ by the performance we saw. Staging this has been a massive effort form a large group of people with diverse skill sets in the school. So if you haven’t decided yet… make up your mind to come and see the play!

ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB:

We have a newly formed Environmental Club who set off earlier this week to do a beach clean-up in Hout Bay. On arriving at the beach they found the City Council already busy with a beach clean-up. So with their teacher in charge they decided to move to cleaning the banks of the river. This very public spirited action was thwarted by a mugger who threatened the group and stole their cell phones. The incident was reported to the police and a case has been opened. I am grateful that all the pupils and their teacher came through without any physical harm coming to them. We are following up with each child to ensure that no lasting emotional damage has been done. In talking to the members of the club I was encouraged to hear that this incident has not dampened their enthusiasm as environmental champions.

EXAMS:

We are just under two weeks away from the mid-term exams. Pupils are under a lot of pressure at this time, as they are trying to study as well as keep up to date with the new work being done in class each day. Parents are encouraged to talk about the exam preparation at home and see if there is anything that can be done to make preparation for these exams easier.
