CBHS Newsletter 4 - May '09

As I watched the Interhouse plays I was again reminded just how talented our pupils are. The six plays we were treated to on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th May were all written and produced by our pupils. The theme was ‘time’ and each house interpreted this differently. Congratulations to Blue House for their win. However, I felt all houses did exceptionally well.

Cross-Country
Well done to all the pupils who participated in the Southern Zone and Table Bay Cross Country League held at Camps Bay High on 24th April 2009. We received the following:
“Thanks to Camps Bay High for hosting the first league event of the season.
A special thanks to Mr Tucker for taking the initiative in this regard. Well done to the smiling faces of staff and learner officials who offered their valuable time to make the day a success”
A special congratulations to Danica Davies who came 1st in the 6km race in 35.16 minutes.

RUGBY TOUR TO GRAAFF REINET – APRIL HOLIDAYS
On 3rd April, Mr Cottle, Mr Becker and the Rugby boys left early in the morning with a long drive ahead to Graaff Reinet. We arrived late afternoon and went straight into practicing. While eating supper we got to meet the other players who were nearly double our size except for Ya’eesh (Bompie).
Our first game was against Winterburg and we went down 24 – 11 due to very bad refereeing. Saturday night was all action with the main event being the sokkie (Afrikaans disco). Sunday was a relaxing day with the team having a nice braai at the pool. Luckily Mr Cottle was on life-guard duty, otherwise SK would have drowned after landing face first in a double front flip dive. Monday we played our second game, the team woke up early to train and prepare for the match.
Our next opponents were Port Alfred and we won the match 18 – 5 playing an exciting and memorable game of rugby. With our boys packed and ready to go, we were on our way home with a very successful rugby tour behind us.
Player of the Tour was Benji Mokhini who played brilliantly in both games. Nicholas van Zyl was Man of the Match against Port Alfred, playing with an ankle injury.
We would like to thank our coach Mr Cottle and the Manager Mr Becker for a very memorable and successful rugby tour.

Nicholas Kottler
