CBHS Surfing Camp - Mar '09

Last weekend, the CBHS Surfers embarked on their annual Surf Camp to Elands Bay. The surfers consisted of Dan Colombo, Ike Forsythe, Brusco Cock, Jessie Goodman, Nick Preen and Denham Preen. The Surfers were accompanied by two Matric Bodyboarders; Greg Sarron and Kobus Els.

We arrived in Elands Bay to small and inconsistent surf, but the team still made the best of it and were in the water for many hours every day. With little swell, this year’s surf camp was still a tremendous success and on behalf of all the surfers, we would like to thank Mr de Korte and Mr Baker for all their time and effort, both in the water and out.

CBHS Newsletter 3 - Mar '09

Dear Parents

We have ended our two week focus on PERSEVERANCE
This has been the first ‘character trait’ we have focused on for the year in our ‘Character Counts’ series. When you start thinking about Perseverance, there are many people who have persevered in life and are role models in this area. The pupils were told in Tutor class of Shackleton's trip to the South Pole aboard the aptly named Endeavour. How the ship got stuck in the ice, forcing Shackleton to lead his crew to walk over the ice to safety, many months later. The account of the hardships they endured is an excellent example of what it is to persevere. In Assembly we watched a DVD of Nick Vuijcic, a man born with no arms and legs and how he embodies the characteristic of perseverance in his everyday life. The next characteristic we want to grow in as a school is that of “Tolerance”.

FAMILY FUN DAY SATURDAY 14TH MARCH 16H00 UNTIL 20H00
You read the flyer and saw the posters. We are holding a picnic on our fields on Saturday afternoon/evening. I encourage you to support. We are selling mouth-watering Mediterranean picnic hampers for two people for only R175-00 containing lots of delicious goodies. There will also be kiddie’s burgers at R25-00 each. The first 40 booked and paid for will receive a free bottle of wine. We will be having live entertainment, music, fun stalls, waterslides and a jumping castle. Pre-booking essential by Wednesday 11th March 2009 for catering purposes.

SCHOOL FEES
Thank you to all parents who have made payments for school fees; either in full or in part. To those who have made application for the reduction in fees: Due to unforeseen circumstances we have not been able to deal with all applications, but hope to finalise these by mid-March. If you intend applying for financial assistance, please do so as soon as possible. Remember that FULL fees are due and payable if no reductions are applied. Please use your family account number (at the top right corner of the statement) as reference to enable me to allocate your payments accurately. A reference of “School fees” does not help me and causes unnecessary delays and frustration.

(Treasurer)

CBHS Debating Teams Win Against Edgemead High - 2 Mar '09

On Monday night, the 2nd March, our senior and junior debating teams went to Edgemead High School for the first round of this years’ Rotary Debating Competition.

Our junior debaters who were all first timers, Cindy Akinyi, Fabienne Arlotti and Emma Le Chat, remarkably won their debate against a much stronger side.

The senior debaters, consisting of Anson Fehr, Cathy Denning and Nicola Soekoe, stole the show. They outperformed, outwitted and dominated a very aggressive Edgemead senior team. As the debating coach, I have never been prouder. Well done to all!
